Dance plays the dominant role in Indian culture, which also symbolises the ethnicity of one single state. Be it from Bharatanatyam to folk, every dance styles has its own importance in their region. India, which is known for its traditional and religious values has given immense contribution for the art, music and dances. Being a sub continent India is the hub of multi culture, which also welcomed and recognised the art and cultures from every corner of the world.

April 29 of every year will mark the International Dance Day. Apart from desi dance styles like Bharatanatyam, Koochupudi, Kathakali, Yakshagana and others, India is also the place for the survival of western dances like belly dance, hip-hop, disco, aerobics and others. Beside society and culture, the dance has immensely influenced on Indian cinemas without the irrespective of region, language and others.

Beside giving importance to story and screenplay, few Indian movie makers had also made it a point of making use of dance as their main theme in their film. The clash between the western and classical dance, and the influence of western culture on youth is clearly shown in the famous multilingual South Indian movie like Shankarabaranam. Multilingual movie Aadalam Boys Chinnatha Dance or Any Body Can Dance (ABCD) was directed by Prabhu Deva. The film was the motivation for many people to try their luck in dance.

Sangamam

Sangamam deals with the clash between the two groups of people, who will be professional Tamil folk dancers and classical dancers. It had Rahman and Vindhya in the lead role.

Poda Podi

Poda Podi had Tamil superstar Silambarasan aka Simbu and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar in the lead role. It deals with the story of a boy, who tries to distance his girlfriend from the dance.

Dancer

Dancer is one of the heart touching movie in the history of Tamil film industry, which deals with the story of a physically handicapped person turning famous dancer in the end. It had Kutty, Robert and Kanika in the lead role.

Mr Romeo

Mr Romeo had Prabhu Deva in the dual role, which was directed by KS Ravikumar. It had Madhoo and Shilpa Shetty in female lead.

Varalaru

Tamil Superstar Ajith Kumar starrer Varalaru is the all time biggest feast for Thala's fans, which featured the actor in three roles. It had Kanika and Asin as the female leads.
