Rajinikanth And Kamal Haasan Together!

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are two pillars of Tamil cinema if not Indian cinema. While Rajinikanth is known for his mass and his ability to pull most number of people into theatres, Kamal Haasan is all about class and perfection. Though Kamal was an established actor when Rajinikanth made his debut as an actor, Rajini managed to woo audience with his style and sense of humour and ultimately became the king of Kollywood.

Rajinikanth And Kamal Haasan Together!

Even amidst a tough competition, the two have a good understanding for each other. Rajinikanth has even said that it was Kamal Haasan who helped him to grow in the industry by showing him the correct path. He has even said that his and Kamal's mentor K.Balachander would in fact compare Rajinikanth with Kamal Haasan and would ask Rajinikanth to observe Kamal Haasan while he's at work to enhance his own acting skills.

Decades after, both have become such a prominent personalities in Kollywood that people would even die to watch them together on screen once again. Questions pertaining to their collaboration have been asked to both actors innumerable times before and both have come up with diplomatic answers until Kamal opened up about their possible collaboration on his 60th birthday when he said that he might do a film with the Superstar in near future.

Though it might be difficult to see them on screen once again, it should not be forgotten that they have worked together in the past before until one day when they decided to take their respective paths. They have worked in 9 Tamil movies, 2 Telugu movies and in 1 Hindi movie together.

Today, we bring to you a list of Tamil movies in which both Ulaganayagan and Superstar were seen together setting the silver screen on fire.

Moondru Mudichu

This 1976 classic was directed by K. Balachander and it has Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and Sridevi in the lead roles. Rajinikanth plays an anti hero and is seen throughout the film while Kamal Haasan's character is eliminated half way through.


Avargal  was released in 1977 and this too was directed by K. Balachander. The film which is a triangular love story revolves around a woman. Rajinikanth plays the woman's ex husband while Kamal is seen playing her silent lover. Kamal also learnt the art of ventriloquism for this movie.

16 Vayathinile

This movie saw the collaboration of Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth for the second time in the same year after Avargal. Directed by Bharathiraja, the movie has kamal playing a village bumpkin who also is a cripple. Rajinikanth plays a baddie who takes advantage of Kamal's Innocence.

Thappu Thalangal

Thappu Thalangal  was released in 1978 and is a feature film. Directed by K. Balachander, the movie has Rajinikanth and Saritha in the lead roles. Rajinikanth plays a local thug in the movie while Kamal Haasan has just done an interesting cameo.

Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu

Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu too saw kamal and Rajini joining hands twice in the same year as this too was released in 1978. Directed by C. V. Sridhar, this feature film saw Kamal and Rajini together for the entire movie. Kamal plays the male lead while Rajini is seen in an important role.

Thaayillamal Naan Illai

Released in 1979, this movie is directed by R. Thyagarajan. Starring Kamal, Rajini and Sridevi in the lead, Thaayillamal Naan Illai saw Kamal Haasan play the lead role while Rajinikanth was seen in a supporting role.

Ninaithaley Inikum

Directed by K. Balachander, this comedy drama was released in 1979. The film is about a musical band in which Kamal plays the vocalist and Rajinikanth is seen playing the guitarist. This film too has equal screen space for both the actors.

Allaudinaum Arputha Vilakkum

This film saw Kamal and Rajini together on screen for the third time in a single year. Released in 1979 and directed by I. V. Sasi, Allaudinaum Arputha Vilakkum has Kamal playing the lead role while Rajini plays the second lead. The film is based on a famous tale from The Arabian Nights and was a commercial success.

Thillu Mullu

Released in 1981 and directed by K. Balachander, this was the last movie in which Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth was seen together on screen. Rajinikanth plays the male lead while Kamal just makes a special appearance in this comedy drama entertainer.
