On Sunday (February 9), Yuvan Shankar Raja announced on Twitter that he was following Islam. Many were surprised and as expected, some were disappointed for known reasons. He posted, "I follow Islam and I'm proud about it. Alhamdhulillah." Soon after there were murmurs whether his legendary father Illayaraaja and his family would be happy about his decision.

Yuvan Shankar Raj cleared the rumours too on the social networking site by saying that his family supports his decision and there was no misunderstanding. He tweeted, "My family supports my decision and there is no misunderstanding between me and my dad."

Many, on Twitter, bombarded him with questions related to his decision to follow Islam. But Yuvan Shankar Raja chose to remain silent.
