Jilla has emerged as the biggest winner at the Box Office in the first month of 2014. The Vijay's star power has worked big time again for his movie. Despite facing a huge competition and garnering mixed reviews, the flick has made highest collection at collection centres.
The Tamil film was opened up to huge expectations for Pongal. Like Vijay's earlier movies, Jilla was not publicised much. Nonetheless, the film managed to pull heavy crowds in the theatres. The movie directly clashed with Ajith Kumar's Veeram on January 10 and emerged as the biggest winner of the month, which had more than 15 Tamil releases.
Whether the makers of the film promoted the film aggressively or not, Jilla was considered red hot in trade circles. It was evident when the film did stupendous business through various distribution rights and other rights.
The distribution rights alone fetched Rs 34 crores for the Jilla producer. There was huge demand for the theatrical rights of the film for Chennai and NSC (North Arcot, South Arcot - Chengalpet), which were sold for record prices.
