Time is ripe to select the Best Tamil Actress of 2014. Sadly, the year 2014 was not exactly heroine friendly as not many movies were made in Kollywood that had vitality to the characters played by our beloved leading ladies. Yet, Tamil actresses have once again proved that they can still exhibit their talent by embracing whatever role offered irrespective of its impact on the movie.
Though 2014 didn't dish out many women-centric movies, it saw
Tamil heroines play a variety of roles. Ranging from a terrifying
ghost to a cop, Kollywood girls had an opportunity to widen their
range this year and they did it perfectly well.
Gone are those days when heroines were required only to appear
in songs or to romance the male leads. Though the trend is still in
place, heroines, who were once typecasted in Indian cinema are now
coming out of their groove and have started to experiment with

Amala Paul had a typical girl next door image in the movie
Velaiyilla Pattathari and she had portrayed her
character very well. Though her role did not have much scope to
exhibit her acting prowess, she had indeed done justice to the
character played by her and made sure it blended perfectly well
with the script.
Hansika Motwani for Aranmanai
The Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru girl had an
opportunity to expand her range as an actress in
Aranmanai and she grabbed it with open arms. She was
drowned in the flood of praises as her performance in the movie
attracted positive reviews from both fans as well as critics. Not
everyday an actress would get to play the kind of role Hansika
played in Aranmanai and she had done complete
justice to her character.
Kajal Aggarwal for Jilla
Kajal had played Vijay's love interest as well as a cop in
Jilla. Her captivating looks and cute expressions were
loved by fans with some going on to say that Kajal is on the verge
of making it big in not only Tamil but also in Telugu film industry
in the near future.
Lakshmi Menon for Naan Sigappu Manithan
Lakshmi Menon had played the role of a bold and broad minded
girl in Vishal's Naan Sigappu Manithan. While the
kumki actress did not have much screen space in the
second half, she managed to woo movie buffs with her brilliant
performance in the first half of the movie.
Nayantara for Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal
Nayantara showed that an actress could look stunningly beautiful
despite taking up a role that doesn't demand to flaunt one's
glamorous side. Her performance too was up to the mark as always
and had fair bit of screen space in Idhu Kathirvelan
