While a few dad's have launched their sons into the film fraternity all by themselves, majority of them have laid back to see their sons making their respective debuts through others.

While Vikram Prabhu has a long way to go before he could come anywhere close to his father's popularity, he has done a decent job so far. It is to be noted that Prabhu himself is a star kid as his father Sivaji Ganesan is considered as epitome of acting in Tamil cinema.
Sivakumar was one of the most successful actor of his time. Suriya on the other hand is fast becoming a Superstar with his versatile acting. Sivakumar's younger son Karthi too is establishing himself as a prominent actor but both these lads have to travel some distance before they can be compared with their father, one might feel.
S. A. Chandrasekhar-Vijay
Though S.A. Chandrasekhar is a respected director who has dished out more than 66 movies in Tamil, today's generation might not know him as well as they would know Ilayathalapathy Vijay. It is perhaps safe to say Vijay has made his father proud by surpassing him in the film industry.
T.Rajendar made sure Simbu entered the film industry as he started casting his son in his movies while he was young. The fact remains that no one can surpass T. Rajendar but Simbu is doing just fine as an actor and is also a multi-talent just like his father.
Ilaiyaraaja-Yuvan Shankar Raja
Yuvan Shankar Raja is a terrific music composer alright but he would probably require the support of hundreds of Yuvan Shankar Raja's to surpass his father for such is the greatness of Ilaiyaraaja. Having said that, both of them are an asset to Kollywood in their own rights and both of them are still very much in demand.
Both Thiagarajan and Prashanth are equally successful actors although Prashanth's acting career has taken a dip in the last few years. Thiagarajan and Prashanth have worked together in many movies with the latest being Mambattiyan. Prashanth's upcoming film Saahasam is being produced by his father.
Vijayakumar is one of the most respected actors in Kollywood. He first was introduced as a hero, tried his hand at some negative roles which earned him success and later on became one of the most successful character artist. He is currently working in Vijay's upcoming movie Puli. Arun Vijay so far has had a mixed career with just over 20 films. His upcoming movie is titled as Vaa Deal and has managed to create some buzz so far.
Sathyaraj too is one of the most versatile actor Tamil cinema has ever seen with over 125 films under his belt. His son Sibiraj however, is not as successful as him. Having said that, his latest release Naaigal Jaakirathai, which was produced by Sathyaraj did well at the box office and he would be hoping for a change of fortunes in his acting career.
Gangai Amaran-Venkat Prabhu
Gangai Amaran is a multi talented artist. He has directed, composed music and has penned a number of songs and is considered as one of the successful artist of Tamil cinema. Not to mention, he has also acted in a few movies. Though Venkat Prabhu is not as versatile as his father, he is fast becoming a successful director.
K. Bhagyaraj is an actor-director and his films were absolutely loved by everyone at his time. Unfortunately his son Shanthanu still has a mountain of sorts to climb before delivering half of what his father has achieved so far.
