Chimbu
Deven's
recently
released
Puli
was
criticized
by
many
movie
critics
and
cine-goers
for
its
weak
plot
and
poor
screenplay.
Though
many
believed
that
the
film's
over-hype
might've
caused
a
ubiquitous
disappointment
among
fans
and
critics,
some
welcomed
the
director's
move
to
helm
a
fantasy
flick.
So
how
important
is
a
fantasy
movie
to
an
industry
like
Kollywood?
Well,
in
my
opinion
fantasy
movies
can
go
a
long
way
in
making
Tamil
cinema
more
formidable
among
its
competitors.
Such
movies
can
allure
its
audience
by
taking
them
into
a
whole
new
world.
After
all,
an
excellent
movie
is
the
one
which
makes
you
forget
about
your
surroundings
and
movies
belonging
to
this
genre
can
achieve
that
feat
with
ease,
if
executed
properly.
Fantasy
films
and
Tamil
cinema
were
once
close
allies
as
this
film
industry
has
produced
some
wonderful
movies
that
falls
under
this
genre
in
the
past.
With
all
the
technological
advancement,
such
films
were
expected
to
flourish
in
Kollywood.
Unfortunately,
nothing
of
that
sort
has
happened
in
the
last
decade
until
Chimbu
Deven
decided
to
come
up
with
one.
Puli
has
not
lived
up
to
its
expectations
alright,
but
hopefully
that
should
not
defer
filmmakers
from
indulging
in
such
ambitious
projects
in
the
future.
