There was a time when Tamil cinema fabricated back to back horror movies that would really spook the audience. But that trend is slowly on its way out, thanks to the origin of a new genre, horror-comedy.
While many horror-comedy movies are tasting success, it is also making sure that quality horror movies are becoming a thing of the past as far as Kollywood is concerned.
Good horror movies are still being watched and appreciated all over the world and it is time Tamil directors and producers take a note of it to come up with more out and out horror movies.
While movies like Yaar and Pathimoonam Number Veedu were made in the past, it has become very difficult to spot such movies today as more often than not two extreme genres join hands to make a horror movie, Pisasu and Kanchana being good examples.
That's exactly why it was extremely difficult to handpick top 10 horror movies in Tamil. Having said that, we have done exactly that and the list is mentioned below.
Check out the below slides for Kollywood's top 10 horror movies:
Starring Superstar Rajinikanth, Prabhu, Jyothika and Nayantara in the lead, Chandramukhi was the remake of a Malayalam movie Manichitrathazhu. The horror quotient was reduced in Tamil and it was labelled as a comedy-horror.

Muni was a prequel to Kanchana and it had Raghava Lawrence and Vedhicka in the lead. With Rajkiran playing the ghost, Muni's horror quotient was much better than Kanchana's.
More than being called a horror movie, Pisasu can be termed as a supernatural drama film. With newcomers Naga and Prayaga in the lead, Pisasu was directed by Mysskin.
Darling is the latest film that belongs to the horror-comedy genre. With GV Prakash debuting as an actor, Darling was directed by Sam Anton and was a commercial success.
Aaaah was a horror anthology film written and directed by Hari Shankar and Hareesh Narayan. It features five different horror stories shot in five different places; Japan, Dubai, the mid sea of the Bay of Bengal, a highway in Andhra Pradesh and a remote ATM booth in Tamil Nadu.
