Thala Ajith is called the 'King of Opening' for a reason and the ultimate star yet again proves his merit through his latest outing Vedalam (Vedhalam). The first day box office collection of the movie is said to be around a massive 15 Crores (approx) in the state of Tamil Nadu alone.
This, by far is a record in the state for a non-single release. Considering the tough competition Vedalam had to confront in the form of 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan's Thoongaavanam, the first day collections of the Ajith starrer is considered to be a terrific achievement.
As we all know, Vedalam had to share screens with Thoongaavanam, not just in Tamil Nadu but all over the world. Had Vedalam grabbed almost all the screens in the state, this collection of 15 Crore rupees could've easily doubled.
Industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai wrote on his social media page, "#Vedalam at the box-office - Phenomenal record Opening across Tamil Nadu. #Ajith once again proves he is the emperor of Opening".
In fact, it is being widely reported that Vedalam has crossed the first day collections of superstar Rajinikanth's Lingaa in Tamil Nadu and in the process presented the Yennai Arindhaal star his biggest first day opening ever.
The film's performance at the box office on day one was terrific in Karnataka and Kerala. The capital city of Karnataka, Bangalore witnessed an amazing response as almost all theatres were housefull throughout the opening day.
When it comes to the overseas, Vedalam is said to have performed well in countries like France and the United States. The Ajith starrer might've collected a whopping 22 Crore rupees from all over the world on its first day. Official confirmation though is awaited on this.
Stay tuned as we bring in more updates on the box office collections of Vedalam.
