This year, Tamil cinema saw the rise of new baddies who gave tough competition to all the existing villains this industry have. Interestingly, 2015 also witnessed many establised heroes taking up the role of the antagonist, a trend which might rule the following year.

Arvind Swamy for Thani Oruvan
Arvind Swamy's role in Thani Oruvan came across as a surprise, for the Roja actor is known for his charming on-screen characters. As it turned out, his portrayal in the movie became one of the reasons for the success of this Jayam Ravi starrer.
Arun Vijay for Yennai Arindhaal
It can be safely said that Arun Vijay's character in Yennai Arindhaal redefined the actor's role in South Indian cinema. Thanks to his power-packed acting in this Thala Ajith starrer, he went on to bag a couple of prominent roles in Telugu and a Kannada film.
Sathyaraj for Isai
Sathyaraj went back to doing what he does best this year and Isai was a classic example. The movie also showed how menacing a villain this 61-year-old actor can be to today's generation who might've missed some of his earlier films.
Karthik for Anegan
Like Arvind Swamy, Karthik too, surprised one and all by taking up the role of a villain in Dhanush's Anegan. Thanks to the overwhelming support his character received, the Raavanan actor decided to make a sequel to his 1992 movie, Amaran.

Parthiepan is yet another actor who transformed himself from being a hero to a petrifying villain in the recent past. Playing a villain with a difference in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, he managed to bring in a lot to the table.

Samuthirakani yet again proved his versatility by essaying the role of a local politician in this Vishal starrer. His acting earned him accolades from critics and fans alike.
Kishore for Thoongaavanam
Kishore's role in Kamal Haasan's Thoongaavanam was unconventional, for the real villain in him will be revealed only in the last few minutes of the movie. Having played characters with negative shades in some of his earlier movies, Kishore had pulled this one off with ease.
Sudeep for Puli
Sudeep had bagged a meaty role in Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Puli. After playing two negative characters in Tamil (Naan Ee and Puli), the Kannada superstar will be seen as a hero in KS Ravikumar's upcoming flick, Mudinja Ivana Pudi.
Vijay Raaz for Kaaki Sattai
Hindi actor Vijay Raaz made his Tamil debut in Sivakarthikeyan's Kaaki Sattai. Playing a corrupt politician, he managed to impress Tamil audiences and hence might bag similar roles in Kollywood, next year.
Suresh Gopi for I
Suresh Gopi returned to Tamil cinema through Shankar's I. His role of a pervert doctor was portrayed efficiently by the actor, who is known for his contribution towards Malayalam cinema.
