Suriya's recently released sci-fi thriller 24 has struck gold at the USA box office. From its opening weekend (including premiere shows), the Vikram Kumar-directed movie has collected more than $1 Million in North America.
"#24themovie joins our Million Dollar Movies list; #Theri, #NannakuPrematho ($2 Mil), #BhaleBhaleMagadivoi, #Manam. Thanks 2 all well wishers!" Cine Galaxy, the company which distributed the movie in North America, wrote on its official social media page.
This is Suriya's biggest opener in the US, surpassing Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Theri in the first two days. While Theri had collected $251,123 from its premiere shows and $130,000 (approx) on its opening day, 24 amassed a massive $440,000 from its premiere and first day shows.
Thanks to positive word of mouth and excellent reviews from critics, 24 is all set to shatter many box office records in overseas markets including USA and Canada. In North America, it released in over 270 screens (Tamil & Telugu languages) and had its premieres held across 130 locations, according to a report.
Though official box office figures from the state of Tamil Nadu and remaining parts of India are yet to be revealed, it is said that the movie might have grossed more than 6 Crores from its opening day (Friday) in Tamil Nadu alone.
In Chennai alone, 24 is said to have collected more than 60 Lakh rupees by the end of its first day theatrical run.
If sources are to be believed, the movie bankrolled by Suriya himself, has collected big across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Being a high quality sci-fi thriller that explains the concept of time traveling in a simple way, 24 is expected to do well in North India and other parts of the country.
