Recently, a Hindi film titled M Cream was released and it was claimed to be India's first stoner film by its makers. Now, it looks like Tamil cinema has got its own stoner film titled Simba.
Starring Bharath, Premji Amaren, Bhanu Sri Mehra and Swetha Ashok in prominent roles, Simba is directed by Arvind Sridhar and has been bankrolled by K Sivaneswaran under Magic Chair Films.
Premji As Dad
"The sequel (Chennai 28 part 2) is just a continuation, so characteristics will be the same. I play a father to four children and my female co-star in the film will come as a surprise," Premji has said.
Premji has said only a promo song is left to be shot, "we were planning to fix Malaysia as the location for the song, but my co-stars got busy with their projects. So we are looking to bring everyone together for the song and then work out the place."
Back To 'Simba'
Coming back to Simba, it is said that the film is a dark comedy, in which Bharath acquires extra-sensory ability through negative experiences. Actress Bhanu Sri Mehra will be seen portraying the role of a journalist.
Based On A True Incident
Simba is based on a true incident featuring the director's friend. Film-maker Arvind Sridhar had revealed that he wrote the script after drawing inspiration from an incident that happened in his stoner friend's life.
It is said that Bharath was initially apprehensive about the project, fearing that a film like Simba might not appeal to Tamil audiences. But later director Arvind managed to convince the actor and roped him in.
Other Cast & Crew
Simba also stars Swetha Ashok and Ramana in important roles, but is centered around Bharath's character. While Sinu Siddharth has handled the cinematography, music has been composed by Vishal Chandrasekhar. The film will be edited by Achu Vijayan.
Bharath's Upcoming Movies
Bharath is also filming for Ennodu Vilayadu, Pottu, Kadugu and Kadasi Bench Karthi. While Ennodu Vilayadu deals with gambling involved in horse race, Pottu is a horror movie. Both Kadugu and Kadasi Bench Karthi are comedy entertainers.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Premji Amaren has said he has bagged one of the most quirkiest of roles in the film, which will showcase Bharath as a stoner.
"I play Bharath's grandfather and a dog in this film. This movie has a wacky screenplay in which Bharath is shown to be hallucinating. I appear in human form only to Bharath, while others see me as a dog," he has said.
Speaking about his costume in the film, Premji has said: "I had to wear a Great Dane mascot costume and it was super difficult during peak summer."
Meanwhile, Premji is also excited about his brother Venkat Prabhu's upcoming film Chennai 600028 II: Second Innings, in which he plays a father to four kids.
