Veteran Tamil actor and noted politician Kumarimuthu breathed his last in Chennai on Sunday (Feb 28). After being admitted to Kauvery hospital due to sudden illness, the 77-year-old actor passed away last night, according to reports.
Known for his comical laugh, Kumarimuthu made his acting debut in 1978 through Ival Oru Seethai. He then went on to feature in more than 500 movies before shifting his focus to politics.
Some of his most famous performances came from movies like Pudhu Vasantham, Oomai Vizhigal, Kozhi Koovuthu and Idhu Namma Aalu. He was last seen in Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Villu way back in 2009.
One of the most reliable orators of the political party 'Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam' (DMK), Kumarimuthu was also an active member in the 'Nadigar Sangam' (South Indian Artistes' Association).
His demise has caused great grief in and around Kollywood. Celebrities are expected to throng his Chennai residence to pay homage to the departed soul.
