Adaikalam Review

The director has treated the story in a causal and different way. The story is a village based one in which the director has given importance to the relationships among people. Now-a-days the movies that are made are mostly commercial and modern. But Adaikalam has a family story. The director has tried a different subject to impress and win over the audience.

The lead role is played by Prashanth. The important thing to be noted is that the real life father of Prashanth, Thiyagarajan, has played the character of Prashanth's father in the movie. He plays a good character role in this movie. He looks young in this film like the heroes of present day. Anbu (Prashanth) lives with his mother Kasthuri (Saranya Ponvanan) and sister Tamil (Uma) in his uncle's house. Both of them are studying in the medical college.

Meanwhile Anbu's sister Tamil falls in love with a guy and the family also accept their love and arrange marriage for them. Suddenly Anbu's mother dies because of a seizure and fits. For performing her last rites Anbu's father Sathyamoorthy (Thiyagarajan) comes from Delhi. Anbu shouts at his father for not caring for them all through the years. So he and his sister do not allow their father to perform the rites. But Anbu's uncle advises him that all the final formalities for his mother should be performed by him so as to make his mother's soul rest in peace.

So after 16 days of formalities and ceremonies Anbu's father leaves for Delhi, while Anbu's uncle goes to college. Now comes the flash back. Sathyamoorthy and Kasthuri are in Delhi where they have two children and lead a happy life. When Kasthuri becomes pregnant again, Sathyamoorthy tells her that since they are economically weak, she should abort the third child. Kasthuri refuses. When she goes to the doctor for a regular check up, the doctor advises to take her health seriously and asks Sathyamoorthy to be beside Kasthuri. Unfortunately, Sathyamoorthy has to attend to an official work in Ooty and he leaves for Ooty leaving behind Kasthuri and the two kids. During her husband's absence Kasthuri trips and falls down the steps and the foetus gets aborted. Kasthuri becomes angry with Sathyamoorthy and goes to her brother's house with her two children. But Sathyamoorthy helps the family by giving money as Anbu's uncle gets only Rs.4000 as salary.

So now Anbu and his sister Tamil come to know about the character of their father and go to home to meet him but by then Sathyamoorthy has left. So both of them go to the railway station in search of their father and finally unite with him..
