Nearly
20
years
earlier
Bharathi
Raja
presented
an
unforgettable
movie
Mann
Vaasanai
with
many
new
faces.
It
created
many
records
and
projected
a
typical
Tamil
Culture
to
the
outer
world.
Paruthi
Veeran
by
Ameer
is
also
a
film
along
the
same
lines.
The
story
of
this
film
is
very
simple.
One
can
find
a
person
like
Paruthi
Veeran
in
every
other
Tamil
Village,
but
Ameer's
treatment
of
this
simple
story
is
just
unique.
Karthi
as
'Veeran'',
a
village
wastrel
and
rowdy
is
always
in
and
out
of
prison,
accompanied
by
his
paternal
uncle
Saravanan.
Priya
Mani,
the
village
beauty
falls
in
love
with
Karthi.
But
the
enmity
between
Karthi
and
Priya
Mani's
families
is
a
big
hurdle
to
their
love.
Since
Karthi's
parents
had
a
love
marriage,
Ponvannan,
father
of
Priya
Mani
uses
this
as
the
strong
weapon
to
check
the
love
affair.
During
one
of
Karthi's
regular
'visit'
to
the
prison,
Ponvannan
compells
Priya
Mani
to
marry
another
groom.
Priya
who
consumes
poison
to
establish
her
strong
love
for
Karthi
is
later
saved.
Priya's
love
for
Karthy
is
so
strong
that
is
impossible
for
her
to
be
separated
from
him
in
any
crisis.
Karthi
realizes
her
deep
love
and
tries
to
mend
his
ways.
Casteism
however
plays
a
cruel
role
between
the
young
lovers.
However
the
climax
is
too
shocking
to
be
believed
by
an
usual
viewer
Director
Ameer's
film
is
noteworthy
for
its
characterizations,
song
sequences,
and
maintaining
the
narrativity
till
the
end.Karthi,
has
given
a
mind-blowing
performance.
He
has
not
acted
but
delved
deep
in
to
the
character.
For
Priyamani,
it
is
her
lifetime
character.
She
appears
through
out
the
film
without
make
up,
atypical
of
a
village
girl.
And
Yuvan
Shankar
(Illaya)
Raaja's
soothing
melody
"Yarathu....
(Rendered
by
the
Maestro
Illaya
Raaja)" is
simply
superb!
Ramji's
excellent
camera
work
brings
the
typical
Tamil
village
in
front
of
the
viewer's
eyes.
