Thagapanchamy
is
the
movie
starring
Prashanth
and
Sivashanmugam
makes
his
directorial
debut
through
this
film.
Directors
who
make
their
debut
always
attempt
to
prove
themselves
in
their
very
first
movie
itself
so
as
to
stay
in
the
hearts
of
the
audience,
and
the
director
of
this
movie
too
has
tried
out
something
new.
The movie starts with Prashanth living in a village named Parapatti. The village suffers due to lack of water and Prashanth, being good at heart, wants to get water for his native village somehow. He goes from one office to another for getting permission for digging a well in the village.
Prashanth meets with Mahadevan who agrees to come to the village for digging the well and thereby help the people. Mahadevan brings along with him his wife and daughter to the village. Mahadevan's daughter happens to be Pooja. But unmerciful fate strikes as Mahadevan dies and the villagers are made to look for someone else to help them. In he end the villagers come to the conclusion that they will never get water in their lifetime and decide to leave their village and seeking occupation in a village in Rajasthan. All the villagers leave their village and reach the farm house where they have to work only to find out that they have been taken as bonded laborers.
Vincent Asokan is the landlord in the farm house and the people are tortured in the farm house both mentally and physically. Namitha has played the role of the landlord's sister and she has a soft corner for Prashanth as he very works hard for his people. How Prashanth ultimately brings the villagers back and marries Pooja forms the rest of the story.
Prashanth has been given a role that suits him very much and Pooja is seen in the traditional costume of Tamil Nadu throughout the movie. Namitha appears in only a couple of scenes in the movie.
Thagapanchamy is a different kind of movie. It will certainly stand out among the commercial formula movies of today. The movie speaks for itself and the director has to be commended for a worthwhile effort..
