Rating:
3.5/5
Tamil cinema has seen many movies that talks about the father-daughter sentiments. Movies like Kannathil Muthamittal and Abhiyum Naanum are considered to be the all time best movies in that genre.

Thanga Meengal can also be included under the above mentioned category. Director Ramsubramaniam (Ram), who made his debut with the movie Katrathu Tamil in 2007, has made a remarkable debut as an actor too.

The movie deals with the story of a common man named Kalyanasundaram, who lives his every breath for his daughter Chellamma (Sadhana). He will not be smart enough in earning the money and every time he will humiliated by his father.

Due to this, the family will face a lot of financial problems, and Kalyanasundaram still manages to pull the cart. Even in this situation, his love, caring and sentiment towards his daughter will never be down.

In the story the family comes across the situation, where it will be very difficult for them to earn money. This make Kalyanasundaram to flee to Kochin. What happens next? Is Thanga Meengal all about.

Apart from father-daughter sentiment, Thanga Meengal also talks about the present day's education system. The kind of discrimination that few teachers do in the schools by taking the negative stand on few students. The movie maker has also focused on the fact that the government schools are equally struggling with private schools to offer quality education for their students.

The director Ramsubramaniam has equally balanced both the role, as a director and an actor. He has been successful in presenting the father-daughter sentiment very effectively.

Producer Gautham Menon

Producer Gautham Menon

The fatherhood theme that we saw in early Gautham Menon's early movies is repeated in Thanga Meengal.

Music

Music

Not a good work by Yuvan Shankar Raja, who is celebrating his 100th music album. He has completely focused on the background score. 'Aanandha yaazhai' is our pick.

Verdict

Verdict

Thanga Meengal is another movie that talks about father-daughter sentiment. Not a new concept, but it has uniqueness in the way of presentation. A must watch movie with your daughter.
