Dhanush's
Thanga
Magan
has
released
today
in
many
theatres
all
over
the
world.
Since
the
movie
houses
the
team
that
was
responsible
in
dishing
out
a
superhit
flick
in
Velaiyilla
Pattathari
(VIP),
Thanga
Magan's
expectation
meter
was
high
right
from
the
beginning.
So,
has
the
movie
managed
to
deliver
the
goods?

Thanga
Magan
Plot:
Dhanush,
an
average
looking
boy
from
a
simple
family
background,
falls
head
over
heels
in
love
with
Amy
Jackson.
He
manages
to
woo
her
and
subsequently
indulges
in
a
thrilling
love
life.
However,
his
happiness
doesn't
last
long
as
Amy
walks
out
of
his
life,
leaving
him
dispirited.
What
follows
is
an
attempt
by
the
director
to
narrate
the
difference
between
love
before
and
after
marriage.
While
Dhanush,
along
with
his
family,
leads
a
peaceful
life,
due
to
a
certain
turn
of
events
Dhanush's
father
(played
brilliantly
by
KS
Ravikumar)
faces
a
grave
situation,
which
in
turn
disrupts
Dhanush's
daily
life.
How
Dhanush's
saves
himself
and
his
family,
forms
the
crux
of
Thanga
Magan.
Performances:
Dhanush
can
now
effectively
carry
an
entire
film
on
his
shoulders
and
he
does
that
yet
again.
Thanga
Magan
depends
on
its
hero
and
he
comes
up
with
a
glittering
performance.
Samantha,
apart
from
her
voice
which
might
irritate
a
few,
complements
Dhanush's
act
in
a
near
perfect
way.
The
London
based
girl
Amy
Jackson,
looks
detached
from
the
entire
movie,
apart
from
a
few
scenes.
Though
the
main
antagonist
looks
a
tad
too
meek
for
the
role
(VIP
too
had
the
same
issue),
other
supporting
cast
including
KS
Ravikumar
and
Raadhika
Sarathkumar
add
solidity
to
the
film.
Sathish's
comedy
sequences
in
the
first
half
makes
way
for
an
enjoyable
watch.
Technicalities:
While
the
first
half
is
breezy
and
congenial,
second
half
gets
a
bit
draggy,
thanks
to
the
emotional
content
and
melodramatic
sequences.
But
brilliant
editing
by
MV
Rajesh
Kumar
saves
the
day
and
makes
sure
Thanga
Magan
doesn't
get
tiring.
Another
important
factor
that
works
in
favour
of
the
film
is
its
screenplay,
as
director
Velraj
has
a
knack
of
entertaining
his
audience
even
while
handling
a
wafer-thin
storyline.
Other
positive
factors
in
the
technical
department
includes
A
Kumaran's
cinematography,
stunt
Silva's
fight
sequences
and
dialogues
from
the
director
himself.
Anirudh's
background
score
is
decent
enough
but
the
lad
could've
done
a
much
better
job,
for
he
is
more
than
capable
of
delivering
some
astounding
music.
Thanga
Magan,
though
not
as
impressive
as
Velaiyilla
Pattathari,
manages
to
make
you
laugh
and
weep.
It
also
most
definitely,
entertains
you.
