Even as he manages to do that by setting up a tea stall right opposite to her house, the story takes a turn when his grandfather, played by Rajkiran, decides to pass on his patrimony to Sivakarthikeyan.
When everything seems to be on track regarding the heritage, Samuthirakani enters the scene claiming that he too, has an equal share in the property.
What is the reason behind his claim? Does Sivakarthikeyan manage to claim his birthright? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.
Sivakarthikeyan is at his usual best and a treat to watch. Keerthy Suresh, playing a Madurai girl, comes up with a believable performance (kudos to the dubbing artiste). Comedy tracks involving Soori have worked out well.
Special performances come from veteran actors like Rajkiran and Samuthirakani, which doesn't come across as a surprise. Samuthirakani may bag a host of negative roles post Rajini Murugan.
Cinematographer Balasubramaniem deserves a pat on the back for capturing Madurai in the most elegant way possible. Editor Vivek Harshan with his smart cuts, makes sure Rajini Murugan doesn't go overboard.
While songs are already popular among fans, background score by Imman is apt for the movie. However, sometimes he does manage to make you feel that the music could've been better.
Director Ponram comes up with a formulaic first half, which would've fallen absolutely flat if not for the comic sequences. The story takes off only in the latter half and manages to keep you guessing throughout.
Barring a few logical errors, Rajini Murugan is an entertaining watch and a treat to family audiences.
