Sethupathi

managed

gather
good
pre-release
buzz

Sethupathi
Plot:
Like
many
other
cop
films,
Sethupathi
is
based
on
the
professional
and
personal
life
of
a
police
officer.
How
does
this
film
differs
from
other
similar
flicks?
It's
the
characterization
of
the
lead
actor
and
how
he
balances
between
being
a
family
man
and
a
ruthless
cop.
Generally,
the
life
of
an
upright
policeman
will
have
its
own
set
of
dramas.
One
such
interesting
incident
comes
with
a
potential
of
putting
Vijay
Sethupathi's
career
in
jeopardy.
How
he
overcomes
this
situation
forms
the
crux
of
Sethupathi.
Performances:
Sethupathi
is
a
one
man
show
right
throughout.
Any
actor
playing
a
cop
in
an
action-oriented
Tamil
cinema
should
be
prepared
to
carry
the
entire
film
on
his
shoulder
and
Vijay
Sethupathi
does
exactly
that
with
elan.
Remya
Nambeesan
as
a
housewife
and
mother
of
two
has
done
a
neat
job.
Her
chemistry
with
Vijay
in
romantic
sequences
is
one
of
the
biggest
positives
of
Sethupathi.
Vela
Ramamoorthy,
who
plays
a
negative
role
in
the
film,
is
good
to
watch.
His
performance
is
commendable
as
he
comes
up
with
a
believable
act.
Music
director
Nivas
K
Prasanna
impresses
with
his
songs
and
background
score.
While
all
his
songs
are
enjoyable,
his
BGM
manages
to
lift
certain
scenes
up.
Editing
by
Sreekar
Prasad
is
another
positive
in
the
technical
department.
His
sharp
cuts
(especially
in
the
first
half)
keeps
you
hooked
to
the
movie.
Cinematographer
Dinesh
Krishnan
scores
big
when
it
comes
to
the
song
and
action
sequences.
However,
his
monotonous
angles
and
lack
of
experimentation
come
across
as
a
disappointment.
While
screenplay
is
good
in
the
first
half,
the
latter
half
gets
predictable.
Very
few
scenes
manage
to
arouse
your
interest
in
the
second
half
which
is
a
worry.
Overall
View:
Overall,
Sethupathi
is
an
honest
attempt
by
the
team
to
produce
a
decent
cop
entertainer
by
infusing
action,
romance
and
sentiment.
But
what
really
makes
the
film
work
is
Vijay
Sethupathi's
ability
to
shine
throughout.
