Independent monitoring body for TV programs

Reportedly, the Government has decided on setting up an independent mechanism to monitor the content of the Television programs. The idea was disclosed during the Question Hour on Tuesday by the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni.

Soni said, “We are on the threshold of announcing a self-regulatory mechanism to monitor content on television." Ambika said that this independent body will take up all the complaints from the public on any objectionable content being aired on private television channel.

Recently, the Information and Broadcasting ministry, has got a lot of complaints from the civil body, complaining of obscene and objectionable content being aired on National Television on the prime time slot. Shows like Bigg Boss 4 and Rakhi Ka Insaaf also received several warnings from the ministry.
