Mahek Chahal's saviour Salman Khan helps her to Bigg Boss 5

Mahek Chahal is one of the fourteen contestants in the Bigg Boss 5 house. However, her journey to the Bigg Boss house is quite interesting. The 24-year-old Norwegian model of Indian origin already has an admirer - and that's none other than Salman Khan.

Mahek Chahal's name was linked to Salman Khan in the year 2007 when her film Nayee Padosan bombed at the box office. She also later went on to do an item number in Chameli, which unfortunately didn't quite sizzle. It was then that our big-hearted hero Salman Khan decided to play saviour and began recommending her in a big way to filmmakers across the industry.

Mahek Chahal was apparently very upset with the way she was being treated in Bollywood and moved back to Norway where her family resides. However, Salman, who was in touch with her throughout recommended her name to the producers of Bigg Boss 5.

Though Mahek Chahal's family originally hails from Punjab, they migrated to Norway years before and have been there ever since. Mahek did her schooling in Norway and studied in a Norwegian-medium school. It was while she was modelling and doing dance shows in various countries across the globe that Mahek got a break in Bollywood. Chahal's linguistic shortcoming soon became a hindrance when she was first considered for a role in Ajnabee. Though she lost the project, Mahek soon bagged a Telugu movie titled Neetho in which her dialogues had to be dubbed.

Mahek Chahal was unable to create waves in tinselville though she had done a course in Kishore Namit's acting school in Mumbai. The school has groomed Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza in the past.

With host Salman Khan strongly backing her, Mahek's stint in the Bigg Boss 5 house might give her the much needed lift in her career.
