Kapilmania: The Kapil-Sharma Phenomena Which Has Taken India By Storm!

Posted by:

History has seen many such instances when a celebrity, a band, a movie, a show, or even a song start off ordinarily but end up becoming a mania. One such phenomena who has been catapulted to unforeseen heights is Kapil Sharma.

From Bollywood to Cricket, from Comedy Nights With Kapil to jam packed events in Dubai, from Amitabh Bachchan to Sunil Gavaskar, from a 6 year old to a 60 year old, Kapil has managed to conquer them, single handedly, with his comedy.

Kapil Sharma, the 33 year old Punjabi munda, has been active in theatre and comedy for the past decade. His story is a clear example to rags to riches of recent times. Though many think he became an overnight star, he thinks otherwise. He says he has achieved the success today because of his hard work and struggle.

"People noticed me when I came to Laughter Challenge seven years ago, but nobody is aware of the work that I did in theatre. People usually feel that I am an overnight star, but this is not true. Whatever I am today is because of my hard work and struggle. I did serious theatre, I also did comedy plays without taking any money and those days have made me a better person," the stand-up-comedian/actor/singer/host, Kapil said in an interview.

Kapil Sharma was a part of many shows like Chhote Miyan, Comedy Circus Ke Superstars, Comedy Circus Ka Jadoo, Jubilee Comedy Circus, Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur, Kahani Comedy Circus Ki, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and Nach Baliye. Kapil dazzled the audience each time he took the stage in all these shows. Yet, he hit the jackpot only when he decided to produce and host his own show, under his K9 Productions, Comedy Nights With Kapil.

Comedy Nights With Kapil, the show on Colors TV has taken the country by storm. The comedy show, that features a small set of characters including Kapil's partners in crime during the Comedy Circus times, Ali Asgar and Sumona Chakravarti, playing Dadi and Mrs. Bittu. While he plays Bittu ji, the other characters whose vitality has captured Indians all over the world, include, Upasan Singh's role as Bua, Chandan Prabhakar as the loud, unpaid servant and Kiku Sharda as Palak, the nosy neighbour with a zeal to show off her dance. All these characters together have created this show which has somehow become a rage among the viewers.

With 9.7m likes on Facebook and 473 thousand followers on Twitter, Kapil has currently left King Khan of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, far behind in popularity. Kapil should now be officially declared a phenomena. A mania.
