Star Plus' serials Saath Nibhana Saathiya, Mahabharat and Saraswatichandra are apparently going to face the axe shortly, bringing in an array of new shows to the channel. A new show, Airlines - Har Udaan Ek Toofan, marking Bollywood actress Tulip Joshi's TV debut, is said to replace one of the three shows. The show has a different storyline, and is about the thrill, glamour and danger that is part of the Aviation industry.
Star Plus has been known for having daily soaps run for light-years, like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bhau Thi, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, and Saath Nibhana Saathiya to name a few. But with the building pressure on Star from competitors like Colors (who have interesting shows like Comedy Nights With Kapil, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, Big Boss 8, Khatron Ke Khiladi and the upcoming Anupam Kher Show) to provide something out of the box, I think the channel has decided to let go of the shows that are not able to impress the viewers.
According to a tweet by Mahabharat actor Thakur Anoop Singh, who plays Dritarashtra on the show, Mahabharat has got an extension till September. But Saath Nibhana Saathiya and Saraswatichandra's fates have not seen any such development. But the tweet was a month ago, and things could have changed since.
Look what ur love has done! ; * pleased to announce that Mahabharat has been extended till September ;) enjoy the show n the performances!— Thakur Anoop Singh (@DRITARASHTRA) June 4, 2014
This comes as a shocking news to the ardent lovers of Saath Nibhana's Ahem-Gopi (Mohammad Nazim-Devoleena Bhattacharjee) and Jigar-Rashi (Vishal Singh-Rucha Hasabnis), and Saraswatichandra's Kumud-Saras (Jennifer Winget-Gautam Rode), as these are some of Star's most loved onscreen pairs.
The news is also unbelievable as Mahabharat and Saath Nibhana... were high TRP garners since they went on air, and even according to the TRP ratings last month, the shows were among those with the three highest TRPs. Looks like Star Plus has decided to focus more on shows with innovative storylines like Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.
