Comedy Nights with Kapil is the best comedy show in the country right now, that's a given. The show has gained widespread popularity due to the fantastic comic timing and wit of the entire team- Kapil Sharma (Host/ Bittu Sharma), Kiku Sharda (Palak), Ali Asgar (Dadi), Sumona Chakravarti (Mrs. Sharma), Upsana Singh (Bua Ji) and the others, and they never fail to disappoint us with their on-the-spot sense of comedy. While the show seems all flawless and glamourous when it airs on our idiot boxes, have we ever wondered what hardwork and chaos ensues behind the camera?
We certainly have a gala and relaxed time watching our favourite comedy show, Comedy Nights with Kapil. Well the cast and crew of the show definitely have a gala time during the shooting, but the whole experience is by no means comforting or relaxing for them.
Host Kapil Sharma and his team slogs for about hours together to shoot one episode of the show. During one particular integration episode with cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh, the crew shot for 6-7 hours!
So here it is- from the unnoticed Director of Comedy Nights with Kapil, Rajiv Dhingra, to the frantic backstage rehearsals and the green room delays, we bring you all the confusion and madness behind the creation of a single episode of Kapil Sharma's comedy show.
Here's all the action on the sets of Comedy Nights with Kapil, that encompass the making of an episode of this iconic show with Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh...
Comedy Nights With Kapil Seems Flawless
The finished, edited version of each episode of Comedy Nights With Kapil, that we ardently watch on TV seems so perfect and faultless. But the real deal is nowhere close! Take a look for yourselves at the pics from the shooting, making and rehearsals...
Kapil Sharma's Method In His Madness
One look at the Comedy Nights With Kapil Sets, and you would not even recognise the show! The set is crowded with so much people, that Kapil Sharma is seen nowhere, and it looks nothing like what we see in our idiot boxes.
Green Room Delays
Palak gets ready for her act, having the script in hand for some last-moment rehearsal. Yes, that answers our curiosity- the show is indeed scripted, but has a lot of spontaneity too.
Bua Ji's Make-Up
Many-a-times, shooting tends to break for almost half an hour as some junior artist isn't ready or due to unanticipated delays.
The Chaotic Audience
Not many people might guess, that the audience is actually paid to sit there. Yes, we mean EACH person. But the condition is, that they have to be there till the shooting ends. Well that wouldn't be a punishment.
Outdoor Shooting With Yuvi And Bhaji
This particular episode, was also shot outdoor, with cricketers Yuvraj and Harbhajan Singh. The entire outdoor sequence was shot for 4-5 hours from over 15 camera angles. But all this will be condensed to 15 minutes after editing!
The Unseen Face- Rajiv Dhingra
The show's director, Rajiv Dhingra has not been in the news as much as Creative Directors Preeti and Neeti Simoes.
The team sits down together and mouths dialogues to brush up memory. With no retakes, the cast has the pressure of performing consistently, without fumbling.
And Finally, Roll Cameras!
After all the prep, the team gets into action, and shoots non-stop, without a fumble, for about 45 minutes. Woah! We wonder what they eat.
Believe it or not, the audience is also made to rehearse for 1-2 hours prior to the show! 10 members from the audience are alotted a question each, and briefed about the camera angles. Still, some get nervous during shooting, making way for a lot of retakes.
And Curtains Down!
Then the curtains close, making way for recess for the cast and crew.
Kapil Sharma Runs The Show
Kapil Sharma ultimately takes responsibility of everything that happens. It's his show afterall!
Dadi Ka Touch-Up
When its break time, Dadi receives a re-touch to her lipstick.
Palak takes a quick beauty sleep inbetween scenes. Doesn't she look adorable?
