Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, Diya Aur Baati Hum, Is Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain... what first comes to our minds when see these names? Yes, without doubt, theses are some of the most ardently followed TV shows. But in our obsession with our favourite TV programmes, we often do not realise one other thing. The names of these popular hindi TV shows have been inspired, or rather, copied, from famous Bollywood chartbusters!
It is shocking when we learn that practically every TV show that is aired, or has been aired on TV in the last half a decade has its name drawn from a hindi song. As if borrowed concepts weren't enough. Some of the songs featured in TV show names are old melodies, while many are latest Bollywood hits.
The reason for this fetish of the programme makers could be in order to gather the audience's curiosity, or just to ensure that the show has a good reception in its early days. With so many shows getting shelved within a few months of launch, may be the channels find it a safe idea to name TV shows after Bollywood chartbusters so that the audience can connect better and familiarise themselves with the concept of the show.
Of course, these shows did grab a lot of eyeballs within the first couple of weeks of launch and have been the highest TRP gainers ever since. Their success has also led to a domino effect, with every newly launched TV show having an adopted name. However, not all of them have emerged victorious in winning the hearts of the public.
Here is the shockingly long list of hindi TV soaps with adopted names...
