Indian television boasts of a huge number of handsome actors and beautiful actresses. Some rise to success sooner than before. That perhaps may be the reason why they sometimes prefer to keep their ‘real’ marriage under wraps.
One of the most famous marriages was that of Sara Khan and Ali Merchant. The duo had an elaborate ‘Nikaah’ on the reality show ‘Big Boss’ in 2010. However it was later revealed that they were married secretly before and re-married on –screen to rake out some money and raise the TRPs of the show.
Similarly telly actors Angad Hasija and Rohit Khurana also hid their marital status till it was discovered by the media. A very-much married Rohit Khurana, who has acted in serials like ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ and ‘Uttaran’ mentions that he never revealed his marriage as it wasn’t required. But his marital status remained a question of debate even later.
Wherein some TV actors mention that they wanted to settle down in the industry and earn a name and then reveal their marriage, there are some like Avinash Rekhi who got married to his long-time girlfriend in 2010 and says that he didn’t reveal it as he was never asked about it!
Gurmeet and Debina allegedly got married in 2001 wherein media reports stated that they had taken the plunge long back. The couple however reinstated that they were in a live-in relationship. Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande who have been in a live-in relationship since more than 4-5 years now from the time they met on the sets of ‘Pavitra Rishta’. However, rumours are rife that they had got married before they started living together due to parental pressure. Speculations also suggest that sometimes it is the production house that instructs the actor to keep mum on their marital status.
On the other hand, Telly actor Shubhangi Atre revealed her marital status from her first serial itself and opines that though her friends had advised her not to, she felt that she will be accepted by audiences well. Some TV actresses do opine that the lucrative roles dip to an extent once they walk the aisle. However, there have been actresses like Shweta Tiwari, Jennifer Winget and even Urvashi Dholakia who have tasted success despite not being ‘single’ and some even having a kid. These apart, even a very much married TV actor Ram Kapoor is the best example of a success story of a married actor.
