Years back when the era of hosting begun, few memories which one may recall would be veteran Annu Kapoor and the graceful Durga Jasraj hosting ‘Antakshri' or Renuka Shahane hosting ‘Surabhi'. One remembers the humble Farooq Sheikh's casual chats with celebrities on ‘Jeena Isi Ka naam Hai'.Fast forward to the 21st century and reality shows have become common. With this, the trend of hosting has also got a makeover. These hosts have, at times, become the savior of reality shows dipping in TRPs too!
Today, on top of the list of hosts would be Manish Paul. Manish Paul has an innate sense of humour. His tongue-in-the-cheek comments and crazy antics on ‘Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa' leave the viewers in splits! His popularity can be gauged with the fact that he recently replaced Dhrashti Dhami in the current season. Jay Bhanushali has been associated with ‘Dance India Dance' since many years now. The audience adore the camaraderie between the grand master Mithunda and Jay. Jay manages to grab the audience's attention as he is put to perform crazy dance stunts which he doesn't in his own humorous and clumsy way. He doesn't mind being the jester in the show!
Today's gang of hosts needs to have a good taste of humour and who better than the ‘King of comedy' on television Kapil Sharma! Kapil hosted the last season of ‘Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa' with Manish which was extremely entertaining. He is now hosting his show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil' which is an astounding hit. His hosting is a mix of sarcasm and jokes with a live audience and celebrities. TV actor and host Karan Wahi is comparatively naïve in terms of hosting and presentation but yet good enough and has hosted ‘Indian Idol Junior' and ‘Nach Baliye Season 6' last year.
Apart from these names, Ritwik Dhanjani, Ragini Khanna and Roshni Chopra have tried their hands on hosting but couldn't really pull it through successfully. There was a time Hussain Kuwajerwala was a successful host. Today's triumphant and flourishing hosts demand that debonair look complemented with a bit of wittiness and absurdity too!
