Chandrakanta,
one
of
the
fantasy
dramas
that
was
telecasted
on
Doordarshan
during
1994-1996,
will
reportedly
be
remade
by
Ekta
Kapoor.
Originally,
Chandrakanta
that
is
based
on
novel
of
the
same
name,
was
produced
by
Nirja
Guleri
and
was
directed
by
Sunil
Agnihotri.
In
1996,
the
serial
was
controversially
pulled
off
air
by
Doordarshan.
For
reinstatement,
the
producers
of
the
serial
had
filed
a
suit
in
court.
Chandrakanta
had
a
rerun
on
Star
Plus
and
Sony
Entertainment
Television.
According
to
reports,
Ekta
Kapoor
is
in
talks
with
some
channels
to
remake
the
serial.
The
original
show
was
all
about
two
lovers
who
belonged
to
rival
kingdoms.
It
had
Shahbaz
Khan,
who
played
the
role
of
Prince
Virendra
Singh
and
Shikha
Swaroop,
who
played
the
role
of
Princess
Chandrakanta.
With
Ekta
all
set
to
remake
the
serial,
the
new
cast
is
yet
to
be
finalised.
Tellychakkar
quoted
a
source
as
saying,
"The
show
will
be
the
remake
of
the
popular
Doordarshan
television
series
of
mid
90',
which
was
also
a
television
adaptation
of
the
novel.
Though
the
project
is
at
nascent
stage
and
none
of
the
cast
has
yet
been
finalized,
the
creatives
are
working
on
the
project
and
the
actors."
According
to
Tellychakkar
reports,
if
Sony
do
not
lock
the
deal,
the
production
house
may
approach
Star
Plus
or
Zee
TV.
Nowadays
fantasy
shows
are
reaching
a
wide
audience
and
are
a
grand
success.
Let's
wait
and
watch
how
Ekta's
Chandrakanta
turns
into
and
if
it
beats
the
original
serial.
