Sonu Nigam's Azaan tweets have been supported as well as criticised by many actors. Recently, Sunil Grover came in support of the singer and Indian Idol judge, Sonu Nigam.

Now, the Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actress has supported Sonu! But, Saathiya actor Mohammad Nazim has criticised Sonu's Azaan remarks. Read on to know what the actors have to say....

Mohammad Nazim On Sonu’s Azaan Remarks…

In an interview to BollywoodLife, Nazim said, "I respect all religions. I reside near churches and temples where they start ringing bells from 6 in the morning so it was not fair of him to talk particularly about Azaan."

Sonu Shouldn’t Have Said It!

"One should not make an issue out of small matters like these. He is a big name in the industry and he is setting a bad example in front of the commoners by talking like this. It's wrong! He shouldn't have said it."

Sonu-Md. Rafi

"When Sonu Nigam entered the music industry, he used to copy Mohammad Rafi. Rafi would leave his songs but would never leave his prayers. If Sonu considered him as his teacher then he wouldn't have said all this."

Sonu Is Not A Kid!

"He is not a kid after all. He is an educated guy. He did a similar thing sometime ago in a plane. Why does he do all this?"

‘I Don’t Have The Right To Judge Him!’

"I just don't understand. But it's wrong. I am not saying that he is a wrong guy but what he has said is absolutely wrong. I can't say it's wrong because I don't have the right to judge him, I am very small."

Nazim Further Added…

"He is an educated guy, who is well known in the entire world. What will people think if a man of his stature will do something like this. Common people will not understand."

When Nazim was told that Sonu Nigam had shaved his head after a Kolkata-based cleric announced a reward of Rs 10 Lakhs to anybody who can tonsure Sonu Nigam and garland him with old shoes; he felt the Maulvi was equally wrong in making such mindless demands.

Nazim said that shaving the singer's head is not going to make any difference. The Maulvi should have instead made Sonu realise his mistake and asked him not to repeat it.

It has to be recalled that recently, comedian-actor Sunil Grover had supported Sonu. He had tweeted, "I know @sonunigam sir he won't hurt anyone's religious sentiments ever. He respects all.Lets not misinterpret n give it a religious tinge."

For the uninitiated, the singer blew up a controversy, when he lashed out at 'forced religiousness' in India after being woken up by the 'azaan' (Muslim calls for prayer) from a mosque, near his home.

He wrote, "God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India." Within no time, he was trolled by Muslim community members and faced severe backlash on social media as his remarks were viewed as insensitive towards Muslims.
