Popular Writer & ‘Real’ Tarak Mehta No More; Celebrities & Politicians Condole His Death

Popular writer Tarak Mehta, who inspired the immensely popular Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, passes away at the age of 87. The celebrities and politicians took to social media to condole his death.

Popular columnist, humorist, writer and playwright, Tarak Mehta, who inspired the immensely popular Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma (TMKOC), passed away at the age of 87 years, after prolonged illness.

The producer of Taarak Mehta, Asit Modi was quoted by an entertainment portal as saying, "Taarak sir is no more with us. Due to health issues and old age he breathed his last today morning in Ahemdabad."

Dilip Joshi, who plays Jethalal Champaklal Gada on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, was quoted by a leading website as saying, "We are shooting right now and just a few minutes ago, we got this news. He wasn't well. It is not easy for us to shoot right now... I was a huge fan of Tarak bhai."

He added, "I grew up reading his columns and then even acted in plays. So, I had a long association with him. I was in touch with him in his last months as well. Every time I used to go to Ahmedabad, I used to meet him. Even though physically he was very weak, his wit and humour were intact."

Taarak Mehta's humorous column first appeared in Chitralekha (March 1971) and since then there was no looking back. He is best known for the column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma in the Gujarati language.

Taarak Mehta is survived by a daughter. Apparently, TMKOC team has planned a special episode for him.
