Genius

TV host Omkar is turning director with the movie Genius, which has hit the screens across the globe today. His debut directorial venture has a wonderful story, concept and good production elements, but he seems to have failed to present it properly on screen, which shows that he is yet to learn a lot in direction.

Genius is a romantic-action movie and Chinnikrishna's good story, Paruchuri Brothers' dialogues, Joshua Sridhar's music, Diwakaran Raghunathan's camera work are its highlights. But poor direction and sluggish screenplay with lots of illogical sequences and forcibly placed songs mar the beauty of the wonderful subject. Debut director Omkar has chosen a brilliant subject revolves around three important fields like cricket, films and politics. He aims to highlight too many things on screen, which results in use of too many illogical sequences.

The movie seems to be a hurry-burry work and it clearly shows that the director has not done much home work before starting this project. If he had done it, it could have been a brilliant movie. Three friends - Nivas (Havish), Yaasir and Koti are big fans of MLA Nanaji (Pradeep Rawat), cricket player Nizamuddin (Adarsh) and film star Peddapuram Peda Babu (Ashish Vidyardhi), respectively. They decide to take revenge upon their role models, when the later betray their fans for their selfish reasons. What happens next will form the rest of the story. Havish, Pradeep Rawat and Adarsh have delivered good performances in their respective roles. But it is Sarath Kumar and Brahmanandam, who steal the show with their brief performances. As Havish's love interest, Sanusha also looks good. Others like Ashish Vidyardhi, Anita Hassanandani and Scarlett Wislon have done their job well. But the director seems to have wasted talented actors like Nagababu, Annapoorna and K Vishwanadh.

Joshua Sridhar's music is the main attraction in the technical front. But the movie has too many songs and their place is also not good. Diwakaran's picturiation is commendable and MR Varmaa's editing is also good, but little more trimming work from him could have made the film look more beautiful. Overall, Genius has a wonderful concept, but the director has failed to execute it on the screens.
