'In order to fight against the injustices in the society, it is the women who should be more literate and more educated,' says popular actress and director Vijayanirmala. Addressing a press briefing on the occasion of the 'International Women's Day on Thursday, the woman director who had directed over 43 films and gained entry into the Guinness Book of World Records, said, 'The films which I directed like 'Sangham Chekkina Shilpalpu and Kavita' were made to infuse confidence and encourage into the lives of women and they were meant for the upliftment of women. Now women are in the forefront in several feilds. The percentage of women in legislative bodies has also gone up.'

She further added, 'The role of mother is important in a family. It is the woman who is the first teacher to her children. If she is literate and educated, she will be able to bring up her children in a right way. When I started my career as director, I don't know that there is a record book called Guinness Book. Had I directed films made under my oen banner4, I would not have get a place in that book, as I can't direct these many films. Earlier, Bhanumati and Savitri also directed the films but they restricted to their own banners. But my commercial outlook, speed in work had made me to work for others' films and kept me on a high pedestal.'
