Several young and beautiful girls, who debuted in films and TV serials dreaming to become No. 1 heroines, are ending up as prostitutes in the market in real life. But not many actresses in Telugu film industry have taken up a challenge of playing a call girl in reel life. In recent times, only a few actresses like Anushka Shetty, Sangeetha and Bindu Madhavi have made some bold attempts.
Tollywood is ruled by actors, and actresses are merely used as glam dolls. Most of Tollywood filmmakers are busy working on commercial subject with big stars. And the industry completely lacks on female-centric and experimental movies. A director says that a story of a prostitute or flesh trade can be a best subject, but it needs a popular heroine to meet its commercial success. He adds that the biggest problem is that hardly any big actress will come forward to do such an experimental movie.
The latest we hear is that popular actresses Charmi Kaur and Shriya Saran are all set to essay the role of prostitutes in two different Telugu movies, to be directed by noted filmmakers in Telugu. These films are reportedly slated to release in 2013. It should be seen whether they will be successful in their attempts to impress the mass.
Anushka Shetty is another actress, who has taken up a challenge of playing a call girl. She appeared as a prostitute in Allu Arjun's 2010 critically acclaimed anthology movie Vedam, which was directed by Krish. The movie had a decent run at the Box Office.
Bindu Madhavi has also dared to attempt this kind of character in Gautham Menon's 2011 film Sega, a dubbed version of Veppam. She has played a call girl named Viji in the movie. Although she had a little scope for her role, she won lots of accolades for her wonderful performance.
According to the reports, actress Charmi Kaur has bagged a role of a sex worker in 10th Class fame director Chandu's upcoming Telugu film Prema Oka Maikam, which will be in the backdrop of Hyderabad. This bubbly girl will be playing a role of a call girl alongside Happy Days fame Rahul.
Devasthanam fame filmmaker Janardhana Maharshi is making a movie titled Pavitra with the tagline 'Aame O Apavitra'. It is reported that he has roped actress Shriya Saran for a meaningful character in it.
