Birthday special: A glimpse at VV Vinayak's super-hit movies

VV Vinayak, who entered films with the movie Aadi in 2002, is one of the most successful directors of Tollywood. Several of his commercial films with masala elements have been critically acclaimed too. The director, who is currently busy with Ram Charan Teja's Naayak, has so far done 11 movies and almost all of them have been commercially hit at the Box Office.

VV Vinayak hogged the limelight with his debut directorial venture Aadhi, which also catapulted actor Junior NTR into stardom. In ten years of his career, he has worked with all Tollywood big stars like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna Nandamuri, Venkatesh, Ravi Teja, Junior NTR, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Nitin Reddy, except Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu.

Aadi is an action movie starring Junior NTR and Keerti Chawla in the leads. The Telugu film, which released in 2002, had collected Rs 22 crores at the Box Office. Later, it was dubbed in Hindi as Mazduron Ka Daata and was also remade in Tamil as Jai with Prashanth.

Tagore is a remake of Tamil film Ramana. The action movie, which hit screens on 24 September in 2003, is one of the big hit Telugu movies at the Box Office in 2003. It featured Chiranjeevi, Jyothika, Shriya Saran and Prakash Raj in the lead roles. It was also screened at the International Indian Film Academy Awards.

Lakshmi, which released in theatres on January 14, 2006, was a family drama with all the commercial ingredients. It was written and directed by VV Vinayak. The film starring Venkatesh, Nayantara and Charmy Kaur in the leads was a super hit at the Box Office.

Adhurs is a romantic action movie released on January 13, 2010. The film starring Junior NTR in a dual-role and Nayantara & Sheela as female leads, was a big hit at the Box Office. Later, it was also dubbed in Hindi as Judwaa No.1.

Badrinath is an action film written and directed by VV Vinayak. The movie starring Allu Arjun, Tamanna Bhatia and Prakash Raj in leads, was released simultaneously in Telugu and Malayalam on June 10, 2011. Although it received poor ratings from film critics, the movie did good collection at the Box Office.


VV Vinayak, who was born on October 9, 1974, has crossed a long way from a son of movie exhibitor to a superstar director. He has set several new trends in the Telugu film industry and curved a niche for himself. Now, he is all set to create a new milestone with his upcoming movie Naayak, which is scheduled to release on January 9, 2013.
