Actress
Amala
Akkineni,
who
was
recently
seen
in
the
movie
Life
is
Beautiful,
was
arrested
along
with
10
Green
Peace
activists
for
protesting
against
the
coal
mining.
The
police
sources
say
that
she
staged
a
dharna
without
permission,
which
paralysed
the
traffic
for
a
couple
of
hours.
She
was
let
off
on
submission
of
a
personal
bond.
Hours
after
Jayanthi
Natarajan,
the
Minister
of
Environment
and
Forests,
opened
the
United
Nations
Conference
on
Biodiversity
at
the
HICC,
social
activist
Amala
Akkineni
unfurled
a
banner
from
the
balcony
of
the
Charminar.
The
60-ft
banner
emblazoned
with
the
Prime
Minister's
face
read
-
Stop
Coal
Crimes
-
Save
Indian
Forests.
Talking
about
her
protest,
Amala
Akkineni
said
that
the
coal
mining
is
destroying
the
huge
biodiversity
in
India.
It
is
also
threatening
lives
of
thousands
of
tribal
people
and
Tigers.
The
better
half
of
actor
Nagarjuna
added,
"Hence,
I
am
protesting
along
with
the
people
who
have
signed
Greenpeace
India's
petition
demanding
the
govt
to
stop
destroying
our
forests."
However,
the
Charminar
police
sources
claim
that
Amala
Akkineni
had
not
taken
prior
permission
for
staging
dharna.
Hence,
the
traffic
came
to
a
standstill
and
the
traffic
movement
was
paralysed
for
at
least
a
couple
of
hours
giving
a
tough
time
to
the
traffic
police.
