Today is Nandamuri Tharaka Rama Rao's 90th Jayanthi. Born on 28th May 1923, in a humble household in Nimmakuru, Krishna District, NTR became the most celebrated actor in Telugu Cinema and also three times Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Viswa Vikhyatha Nata Sarvabouma - NT Rama Rao's larger than life persona cannot and will not be donned by any other person ever. Many might come and go, but he will remain forever the Best Actor in Telugu Cinema for all the years to come.
Starting his career with the film Mana Desam in the year 1949, NTR built a movie empire of about 320 films. His discipline in life was mirrored in his way of working in his films. For his role in Narthanasala, he actually learnt the dance-form Kuchpudi from the renowned dancer Vempati Chinna Satyam. His movies like Maya Bazaar, Lava Kusha, Pathala Bhairavi, Missamma, Gundamma Katha and many more are gems that cannot be remade. Many believe that the present generation even trying to remake or naming their films after these monumental movies is an insult to them.
He entered politics in the year 1982 by establishing Telugu Desam Party. NTR's popularity was such that the then all-powerful Congress Party was forced to hold early elections. He campaigned across AP in a Chevrolet van, which he named Chaitanya Ratham, and covered 75,000 kilometers. He campaigned for restoring the dignity of Telugu people with the slogan Teluguvari Athma Gouravam. It was not a surprise when he won with absolute majority. NTR was sworn in as the 10th and the first non-Congress Chief Minister of the state.
It is the time of the year when we get to celebrate his movies, his work and him, Nata Sarvabouma Padama Shri - Sri Nandamuri Tharaka Rama Rao, the original and the one and only.
