Importing actresses from other languages is a popular trend in all film industries in India. But no industry has hired so many girls from other languages as Telugu film industry has done it. Tollywood has borrowed actresses from almost all the language films of the country. The Tollywood producers have even gone to the extent of bring foreign models like Danah Marks, Scarlett Mellish Wilson (Britain), Gabriela Bertante (Brazil).
The Tollywood filmmakers have imported a large number of actresses from other languages like Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarathi, Punjabi and Oriya. But a very few of them are successful and continue to reign the region. Interestingly, these makers have hardly launched any girl from Andhra Pradesh in recent times. The result is that hardly any Telugu actress is in the list of popular actresses.
It is not clear whom to blame this on - Filmmakers for introducing foreign non-Telugu actresses or the film goers for giving them thumbs up and encouraging these girls.
