Ram Charan Teja's Zanjeer, which marks debut in Bollywood, might be a big let down in the domestic market. But back home its Telugu version Toofan (Thoofan) is working wonders for the Mega Power star. The much-hyped remake of 1973 cult classic is taking the AP Box Office by storm. It has set a new record in Tollywood with its opening day collection.
With the current political turmoil in the state delaying Ram Charan's Yevadu, the release of Toofan had sparked a big debate on its success at the Box Office. Many in Tollywood were keeping their fingers crossed about its fate as the people from both Seemandhra and Telangana were threatening to disrupt its screening in the state. But the makers of the film managed to get the High Court send an order to AP Police to provide security for its safe release in the state.
Much to the dismay of Cherry's detractors, the Apoorva Lakhia received an overwhelming response. On its opening day, he Ram Charan and Priyanka Chopra starrer collected Rs 10.64 crores at the AP Box Office. The first day collection of Toofan is three times of what Zanjeer has collected from 2085 screens across India on two days.
However, Saturday proved to be a bad day for Toofan, which shown decline in its number in all the regions of the state. Especially, its collection hit the rock bottom in the Hyderabad region due to the 24-hour showdown by Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) and Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers (APNGOs) Association. On its second day, the film added Rs 6.15 crores to its two-day collection Rs 16.79 crores.
