Ram Charan Teja's highly-anticipated Telugu movie Yevadu was to hit the screens in Andhra Pradesh on July 31, but the makers of the film have postponed its release to August 21. Although producer Dil Raju has claimed that its delay was due to unavailability of theatres, the reason for its postponement seems to be different. Insiders from the industry feel that it is due to Telangana separation.
Insiders feel that Chiranjeevi hails from West Godavari district, and Telangana movement often had a toll on the film releases of his family in the past. Allu Arjun's 2010 release Arya 2 is the best example for it. The Sukumar-directed flick had got very good opening at the Box Office, but it could not reach its makers' expectations due to the Telangana agitation.
It is known fact that Chiranjeevi has always been against the division of the state. Much before the Congress announced its intention, the Megastar had several meetings with the party Supremo Sonia Gandhi and tried to convince her to keep Andhra Pradesh united, but in vein. He had a clue about the division of the state well in advance. Continue to read more on the delay in the release of Yevadu in the slideshow.
Dil Raju Was Arya 2 Distributor In Nizam
Interestingly, Dil Raju, who is the producer of Yevadu, was the distributor of Nizam area for Arya 2. The memory of Telangana agitation and its effect on Arya 2 collection is still fresh in the mind of the producer-turned-distributor, who was said to have lost Rs 1.50 crore from the distribution of Arya 2 in Nizam area.
Telangana Agitation Effect On Arya 2 Collections
Arya 2 had collected Rs 5 crores in the first week and Nizam area had contributed 75% of it. But in the second week, the business of the film dropped drastically due to the Telangana agitation. Its screening was banned in all Telangana regions due to Bunny's relation with Chiranjeevi.
Dil Raju Realised Seemandhra Sentiments
Dil Raju reportedly sensed that after the division, people of Seemandhra would surely be upset with Chiranjeevi, who hails from West Godavari district. He also realised that feeling betrayed by Chiru, they might even threaten to boycott the movies of his family.
At the same time, the producer also reportedly thought that the people of Telangana, who were upset with Chiranjeevi for opposing the separation of their state, might reject Yevadu outright considering Ram Charan Teja's roots in Seemandhra.
Yevadu Release Postponement
After considering all these facts, Dil Raju, who has shelled out Rs 35 crores on Yevadu, reportedly did not want to take a chance with its release. Without giving it a second thought, the producer decided to postpone its release.
Telangana Creation Process
The timeline for the creation of the new state Telangana involves an elaborate process and it has been allotted 122 days or at least four months. With Yevadu set to release on August 21, now the question is: Will the movie be able to do well at the Box Office.
Yevadu Fate At Box Office
Will both Seemandhra and Telangana accept the movie Yevadu? Will Dil Raju be able to recover his production cost? Will the distributors from both region be able to earn profits? Only time will answer all these questions.
