Legendary Telugu actress Anjali Devi passed away this afternoon (January 13). The 86-year-old actress was reportedly suffering from some age-related decease. She was recently admitted to the Vijay Hospital in Chennai, where she is said to have breathed her last. She is survived by musician-husband P Adinarayana Rao and two sons.

According to sources from the Vijaya Hospital Anjali Devi was suffering from heart-related problems. Sources told IANS, "Anjali Devi was admitted to Vijaya Hospital four days back. She passed away this afternoon."
Born on 24 August 1927, Anjali Devi started her acting career with a minor role Lohitasya in Raja Harishchandra in 1936. She played the lead role in LV Prasad's Kashtajeevi. Later, she also ventured into Tamil and Hindi film industries. In her career spanning four decades, she played various roles like damsel, angel, dancer, demon, goddess, traditional woman and later in motherly roles.
Anjali Devi is well-known for her mythological role as Sita in Lava Kusha, which is landmark film in Tollywood, and roles in movies like Suvarna Sundari and Anarkali. In Hindi, she is better known for her roles in Devta opposite Gemini Ganeshan and Sati Savitri opposite Mahipal and Bhakta Prahlad. The songs picturised on her like 'Tum gagan ke chandrama ho', 'Jeevan dor tumhi sang bandhi', 'Kabhi to miloge, jeevan sathi' from Sati Savitri are still quite popular.
Along with her husband P Adinarayana Rao, she had also produced many Telugu films under the banner of Anjali Pictures. Her sudden death has shocked many in Andhra Pradesh.
