Telugu comedy actor Ali, who is set to release his film Alibaba Okkade Donga on February 21, has revealed that Superstar Mahesh Babu was to play the hero in Yamaleela, which happens to be his first film as hero. Since his father Krishna did not give his consent at the moment, the comedian became the hero and he will complete 20 years as a lead actor in Telugu cinema this April.
In his acting career spanning three decades, Ali has starred in 1,000 movies, but as a hero, Alibaba Okkade Donga happens to be the 50th film of the actor. He is all excited about the film. The comedian is now busy promoting the movie. He is leaving no stone unturned to make it big success in his career.
In an interview, Ali revealed how he became the hero with the movie Yamaleela. Director SV Krishna Reddy, who has directed this 1994 movie, wanted to cast Mahesh Babu for the lead role and had initially approached his father Krishna to narrate the story of the film. The veteran actor liked the story, but asked director to wait for three years.
Ali added that later, SV Krishna Reddy and Acchi Reddy, who is the producer of Yamaleela, approached him for the lead role in the film. The actor, who was very much impressed with the story and his role in the film, signed the agreement with the filmmakers. The comedian also revealed that the movie was originally titled 'Yamaspeedu', but was later changed as 'Yamaleela'.
