Much-awaited Telugu movie Manam starring late Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya in the leads, has taken the Box Office by storm. The Vikram Kumar-directed comedy drama film has not only got overwhelming response in Andhra Pradesh, but also in other parts of India and overseas on its opening day.
Manam is the last movie of Akkineni Nageswara Rao, who died of cancer on January 22. Its promos had created lot of positive buzz in the media before its release. The film goers were desperately waiting to watch the film in theatres. The makers of the movie had made the advance ticket booking available five days before its release. So the movie registered huge amount of booking for the opening day.
Akkineni Nagarjuna had organised a grand premiere for Manam on Thursday evening, May 22. Many leading Telugu celebs like Chiranjeevi, SS Rajamouli, Allu Arjun, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Lakshmi Manchu, who attended its special screening, expressed a positive word about the film. A few film goers, who watched it in its special screening, also spread a good word about it on Twitter and Facebook.
Manam released in 100+ screens in America and a few other international markets on May 22, one day before its release in India. The movie received superb response there on its opening day. It has become the biggest opener for Nagarjuna at the USA Box Office. Bollywood trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted, "Telugu film #Manam takes a PHENOMENAL start in USA. Thu previews: $ 91,484 [Rs 53.45 lacs] on 69 screens. Many screens yet to report."
Having garnered a good word of mouth and huge amount of advance ticket booking, Manam released in nearly 700 screens in Andhra Pradesh and other parts of India on Friday and received an earth-shattering response everywhere. The movie registered an average of 95% occupancy in both single screens and multiplexes in the morning and matinee shows on its opening day. It ran to packed houses in many screens. Its business went upwards in the evening and night shows.
Manam has collected Rs 2.50 crores nett from around 7 screens at the Indian Box Office on the first day. Its breakup is Rs 91 lakhs in Nizam, Rs 39 lakhs in Ceded, Rs 22 lakhs in Vizag, Rs 18 lakhs in Guntur, Rs 14 lakhs in East Godavari, Rs 15 lakhs in West Godavari, Rs 17 lakhs in Krishna, Rs 7 lakhs in Nellore, Rs 16 lakhs in Karnataka and Rs 3 lakhs in rest of India.
