I Went Against Norms Of Tollywood To Do Geethanjali: Nagarjuna

Actor Akkineni Nagarjuna's Geethanjali is one of the cult films of Telugu film industry. The movie, which had hit the screens on May 10, 1989, has recently completed 25 years of its release. The film had achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim. Recalling his memory, the actor, who has played a cancer patient in it, has revealed that he discarded the norms of Tollywood to do this classic film.

On May 12, Nagarjuna took to his Twitter page to share the news about breaking the norms for Geethanjali. The actor tweeted, "25 yrs ago I went against all norms of Telugu film making and decided to do Gitanjali/one of the best decisions I took in my life:)." Meanwhile, he added, "Thank you Manirathnam for making it and thank you my friends for making it a classic. :)"

Geethanjali is a romance drama written and directed by Mani Ratnam. The film revolved around the love story of a carefree and mischievous guy and girl, who are suffering from some deadly deceases and have little time left on the earth. Nagarjuna and Girija Shettar have played the deceased lovers, while Vijayakumar and Vijayachander essayed important roles in the film, which has Ilaiyaraaja's music.

Released on May 10, Geethanjali was a huge success at the Box Office. It was also dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam and remade in Hindi as Yaad Rakhegi Duniya. It won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and seven Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Awards.
