Fails to reach audiences' expectations

When a film had given a big hype, one can assume even before the release of the film that it may not reach those expectations. There are many films which proved this theory and Sainikudu is no exception. Those whose releases were quite silent they would become unexpected hits. The recent hits like Pokiri, Devadasu, Vikramarkudu proved this as well. Producer Aswinidutt had spent a huge money to erect a village set for flood scene, the Warangal town set and also for graphic works besides the latest Digital Intermediate technology. Due to the high production values, the film looked rich both on the scene and in technical front, the film failed to reach the expectations. Mahesh Babu fans themselves were not that happy with the outcome.

Siddhartha (Maheshbabu) is a medical college student. He believes that one had to act like a soldier to save the people from problems. When a village suffers floods, he and his friends save as many lives. After the floods recede, Siddhartha and his friends come to know that the flood relief did not reach the needy and distribute the relief material themselves by stopping the relief material from being smuggled out. Parakala Purushottam Yadav @ Pappu Yadav (Irfan Khan), a goonda, joins the ruling party and decides to contest the byelection. Siddhartha decides to stop him from getting elected and tries to put up his friend Ajay (Ajay) as the opposition candidate. But Pappu Yadav with the help of his brothe-in-law- Mondi Nani (Prakashraj) stage manages an explosion and sends Siddhartha and his friends into jail. As there was no opposition, Pappu Yadav gets elected and becomes Home Minister. He decides to eliminate the gang legally, but Siddhartha escapes. When Pappu was about to marry Varalakshmi (Trisha), Siddhartha abducts and takes her with him. After the kidnap, he threatens Pappu and gets him to fulfill his election promises. After a lot of running here and there, ACP Pochamma (Sakuntala) chalks out a plan and was about to arrest Siddhartha, but Mondi Nani attacks Siddhartha and his friends at the same time, making it possible for Siddhartha to escape. High Court orders Siddhartha to surrender within 48 hours. By that time, Siddhartha explains to Varalakshmi, how bad man Pappu is, but she did not listen. Then he relieves her to reach Pappu and she then realises that he is really a bad guy and remain with Siddhartha. Mondi Seenu decides to eliminate Siddhartha and prepares a bomb which accidentally explodes and he gets grievously injured. Fearing Seenu would turn an approver Pappu decides to kill him. However, Siddhartha saves him and makes him realize what Pappu is. As the time given by court nears, Pappu plans to kill Siddhartha while reaching the court, but the latter cleverly goes to a private TV channel office and pleads with the court to run the proceedings through video linkage. He proves that he was innocent with the help of Mondi Seenu and Varalakshmi. As Pappu was left with no option, he uses the same trick applied by Siddhartha and kidnaps Varalakshmi and tells Siddhartha to surrender to him. But Siddhartha saves her. In the climax Pappu gets killed by Mondi Seenu. The film ends on a happy note with the union of Varalakshmi and Siddhartha.

Plus:
The major plus point in the film is the performance by Maheshbabu, the stylish choreography of action scenes, use of Digital Intermediate technology for colour grading. The picturisation of songs was also very good and the use of advanced technology helped the film looked very richly. As was rightly pointed out by its producer Aswinidutt in a recent interview, the audiences were taken to a new world, especially during the song sequences. The eight-minute dialogue of Maheshbabu that the country needed youth and not goons to rule the nation and calls for leaders like Puchalapalli Sundaraiah, Abul Kalam Azad and Guljari Lal Nanda is mind-boggling. Paruchuri brothers needed kudos for penning that scene.

Minus:
The entire first half was full of running by the hero and heroine. Director Gunasekhar had prolonged several scenes unnecessarily with improper screenplay. The bridge collapse scene was too exaggerated. There was an unnecessary drama to play a satire on TV channels when the villain was suffering from an injury. Several scenes were prolonged to use as satires and made the film boring.

Remarks:
The film opened with above average talk and the fans themselves were not very satisfied with the film. Though the director tried to elevate Maheshbabu's image, he failed to run the film with a firm grip in the absence of a power-packed story. Moreover, the basic theme of the film that one should work like a soldier to serve the society was ignored all through the film, but for the first few frames and the argument scene in the court hearing. It is absurd to use the real life incidents such as Moddu Sreenu incident and the TV9 scenes, which spoiled the image of the hero.
