Krishna (Vikram) is a mentally-challenged boy, who was admitted to a mental asylum and returns from there after some 10 years. Prabha is the daughter of a millionaire, who runs many educational institutions in south India. She is interested in social work and meets Krishna and falls in love with him and marries him against her father"s wish. She gives birth to a baby girl and dies. Krishna works in a chocolate factory run by a person named Victor. He brings up the child by naming her Vennela. After Vennela turns five years, Victor admits her in Green Valley school, which is runned by Prabha"s sister Divya. She comes to know that Vennela is her sister"s daughter and informs her father. So, Divya"s father promises Victor and other in the village and takes away Vennela from Krishna.
However, he dumps Krishna in the midway and takes away Vennela. Accidentally, advocate Anu (Anushka) saves him and comes to know the entire story. She goes to Vennela"s grandfather"s house and asks him to return the girl to Krishna, but he refuses and dares her to go to court. She decides to go for a legal battle for Vennela and files Habeas Corpus petition for Vennela. Being a rich guy, Vennela"s grandfather engages a senior advocate (Nazar). The respondent"s lawyer tries to prove that Krishna is a mentally challenged person but he could not do so. He finds that his assistant has joined hands with his opponent, he reveals the questions of his cross examination to him and makes his doubt clear that his assistant is leaking the information. What happens next forms the interesting part of the story.
Vikram has excelled in the role of a mentally challenged and a caring father. His body language, histrionics, performance and the way he shows love towards children are superb. Vikram has given a flawless performance. Anushka, who is known as the glamour doll, has raised to the occasion and has given superb performance. Though, the film is not a woman-oriented film, she has performed excellently and filled her character with dignity. Other artistes including Santanam, MS Bhaskar, Nasser, and Surekha Vani have done complete justice to their roles..
One song (can be called as duet) picturised on Anushka and Vikram has been choreographed excellently. The camera work in the rain song is the best, as the cinematographer has used a high definition camera for slow picturisation of the song. That song remains one of the highlights of the movie. In another song, the director has used lavish sets and graphics. Dialogues by Sashank Vennelakanti are average while music by GV Prakash Kumar is not very impressive but not bad in other words. Rerecording should have been a little better. Director Vijay should be commended for a gripping screenplay and his directorial ability is also impressive. He has made the audience spell bound and stick to the seats from the beginning till end with his ability. The entire film is very gripping and worth watching. But the only draw back of the film is lack of comedy. Though, there is some crude comedy, it has failed to evoke any laughs. As a result, the film may not be liked by regular cine goers but definitely the film would get a critical acclaim.
Watch the film for the heart-wrenching story and the lead actors performance. For a serious film watcher, Nanna is the best film.
