Madhura
Sreedhar
Reddy,
who
came
into
the
limelight
with
Sneha
Geetham,
is
known
as
a
class
director
and
he
always
makes
movies
with
a
message.
His
latest
directorial
venture
Back
Bench
Student
is
no
different
from
his
usual
filmmaking
style.
What
makes
it
different
from
his
previous
ventures
is
that
he
has
given
a
commercial
touch
to
it
and
made
it
a
beautiful
entertainer,
which
is
sure
to
rock
young
audience.
Back
Bench
Student
is
a
romance
drama
and
the
director
has
included
a
few
commercial
elements
like
comedy
and
also
a
couple
of
lip-lock
scenes
to
lure
the
young
film
goers.
This
does
not
mean
that
it
is
an
out
and
out
masala
film.
Within
his
sensibilities
and
film
making
style,
he
has
done
a
few
changes
to
make
things
more
appealing
to
mainstream
movie
lovers.
Mahat
Raghavendra's
excellent
performance
is
the
main
highlight
in
the
film
Back
Bench
Student.
Madhura
Sreedhar's
realistic
and
relatable
story,
Sunil
Kashyap's
melodious
music,
PG
Vinda's
beautiful
picturisation,
Piaa
Bajpai
and
Archana
Kavi's
glamour,
Brahmanandam-Ali's
comedy
and
exotic
locations
are
its
other
strength.
But
the
biggest
drawback
is
that
the
film
drags
and
bores
you
in
the
second
half.
Taking
inspiration
from
Abdul
Kalam's
statement,
"The
best
brains
of
the
nation
may
be
found
on
the
back
benches
of
the
classroom," the
director
has
tried
to
offer
two
beautiful
messages
to
youth.
Firstly,
failing
in
exams
is
not
the
end
of
life.
Every
person
is
born
with
a
talent
and
he/she
needs
to
identify
and
develop
it.
Secondly,
everyone
must
have
social
responsibility.
To
impart
these
two
aspects,
he
has
weaved
a
love
story
and
has
also
included
some
comic
moments
to
add
entertainment
quotient.
Madhura
Sreedhar
was
basically
offering
career
guidance
to
students
and
the
story
of
Back
Bench
Student
is
loosely
based
on
life
of
a
guy,
who
had
come
to
him
for
guidance
a
few
years
ago.
This
depressed
Engineering
student
had
failed
in
16
subjects.
The
director
had
identified
his
talent
and
encouraged
him
to
take
it
up.
Today,
he
is
earning
a
lakh
a
month.

The
story
of
Back
Bench
Student
revolves
around
Karthik,
Priyanka
and
Chaitra.
Karthik
(Mahat
Raghavendra)
is
a
careless
Engineering
student,
who
is
least
bothered
about
his
studies
the
result
of
which
is
16
backlogs.
He
is
love
with
his
classmate
Priyanka
(Archana
Kavi),
who
splits
from
him
and
leaves
for
USA
to
pursue
MS.
The
hell
breaks
loose
when
his
parents
(Sharath
Babu
and
Pragathi)
come
to
know
about
the
backlogs.
While
he
is
in
search
of
a
job
to
support
himself,
he
hooks
up
with
Chitra
(Piaa
Bajpayee).
Meanwhile,
Priyanka
comes
back
from
the
US
in
search
of
Karthik.
What
happens
next
will
form
the
rest
of
the
story?

Mahat
Raghavendra
is
absolutely
unfit
for
the
role
of
a
hero.
He
neither
has
the
talent
to
emote
nor
could
at
least
try
to
show
any
kind
of
body
language
or
ease.
He
could
not
show
any
ease
in
dances.
The
audience
could
not
accept
him
as
a
college
student
at
least.

Piaa
Bajpai
is
the
saving
grace.
Her
screen
presence
spills
some
magical
moments
as
she
could
fill
some
glamour
slot
and
audiences
could
find
some
kind
of
action
in
her.

Another
heroine
Archana
Kavi
is
also
similar
to
Mahat.
She
also
does
not
fit
in
her
role.
She
has
no
glamour
and
at
the
same
time
she
has
no
inclination
to
emote
in
any
of
the
scene
and
has
failed
to
give
any
kind
of
expressions.

Surprisingly,
Brahmanandam
too
could
not
impress
the
audiences
with
his
performance.
Saratbabu,
Pragati
and
Benarjee
did
justice
to
their
respective
roles.

another

gave

He
did
a

neat
job.

In
the
technical
front,
Sunil
Kashyap's
music
is
good
and
a
couple
of
his
compositions
are
hummable.
But
his
background

fails
to
elevate
any
of
the
scenes.
GK

is
also
commendable.

Lakshmi
Bhoopal's
dialogues
are
average
and
good
in
parts.
Kakarla
Dharmendra's
editing
lacks
smartness.
He
has
failed
to
cut
many
of
the
boring
scenes
especially
in
the
second
half.
Madhura
Sridhar
seems
to
have
failed
in
all
departments
like
story,
screenplay
and
characterisation
and
he
needs
to
take
responsibility
for
the
failure
of
the
show.

Overall,
Back
Bench
Student
is
an
average
entertainer.
The
first
half
is
good,
but
the
second
half
drags
and
bores.
It
should
be
seen
how
youth
will
accept
it.
