Geethanjali - Movie Review

Raj Kiran's debut directorial venture Geethanjali has created lot of buzz in the media for several good reasons. Its promos - videos, posters, songs and music videos have garnered huge amount of curiosity for the film. Having soared up the viewers' expectations to the sky high, the movie has hit the screens today (August 9).

Geethanjali is a horror comedy film that has some commercial ingredients. Srinivasa Reddy and Anjali's performances are the main attractions of the film. Kona Venkat's engrossing screenplay and hilarious dialogues, Praveen Lakkaraju's music, Sai Sriram's cinematography and some comedy scenes are other highlights. A couple of unnecessary songs, cliched scenes and predictable plot in the second half are its big drawbacks.

Kona Venkat has a fresh and interesting storyline for Geethanjali, but his screenplay lacks the freshness as some scenes are inspired by old movies. The first half of the film is very interesting with its high entertainment quotient and this portion is the biggest strength of the film. But the director has failed to maintain the same curiosity as he reveals the twist in the second half following which the film turns predictable.

Srinu (Srinivasa Reddy) is an aspiring director and he comes to Hyderabad to fulfill his dream. Along with his friend, he unknowingly rents an apartment in the city. Once Srinu meets Anjali (Anjali) in the same apartment and becomes good friend with her. But soon he finds out a horrifying truth about her. What is that truth? The rest of the film will answer this question.

Anjali has done brilliant performance in Geethanjali and she rocks the audiences with her expressions. Character artiste Srinivasa Reddy has a large screen presence and he has done justice to his role. Shakalaka Shankar tickles the funny bones of the viewers with his unique accent and histrionics. Satyam Rajesh, Sapatagiri, Brahmanandam and Rao Ramesh have also done their best for their roles.

Geethanjali has a brilliant production elements and Praveen Lakkaraju's background score is the main highlight in the technical front. His songs are also good. Sai Sriram's camerawork is another big attraction of the film. The graphics and other technical departments have also done commendable jobs. Editing is good, but trimming certain scenes in the second half could have made the film a much better viewing experience.

Overall, Geethanjali is a good horror comedy movie and the first of the film is superb. If the director had maintained the thriller element in the second half, it could have been wonderful film. Continue to read Geethanjali review by viewers in the slideshow.
