All About Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life): Real-Life Hero Najeeb to Reel Hero Prithviraj

Filmmaker Blessy's 'Aadujeevitham'  stands as one of his most ambitious projects of the year. This survival thriller features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Amala Paul in leading roles, depicting a gripping tale of resilience. Adapted from Benniyamin's novel 'Goat Days,' the film promises a compelling narrative rooted in reality.

Produced under Prithviraj's production house, the movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast including K.R. Gokul, Hollywood actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, and Arab actors Talib al Balushi and Rik Aby in pivotal roles.

Elevating its stature further, Academy Award winners A.R. Rahman and Resul Pookutty have contributed their expertise in music composition and sound design respectively. Set for a worldwide theatrical release on March 28,  'Aadujeevitham' will captivate audiences in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi languages.

'Aadujeevitham' narrates the true story of Najeeb, a Malayali migrant worker who found himself ensnared in servitude as a goatherd in Saudi Arabia. Initially enticed by the promise of employment opportunities, Najeeb's hopes are dashed as he becomes trapped in a harsh and unforgiving reality. Forced into grueling labor under challenging conditions, he not only grapples with physical hardship but also experiences profound isolation and despair.

Inspired by a real-life incident, the film serves as a poignant reflection of the plight faced by millions of migrants who journey to Gulf countries in search of better livelihoods for their families. Through Najeeb's story, 'Aadujeevitham' sheds light on the struggles and sacrifices endured by individuals striving for a better future in foreign lands.

Born in a small village in Kerala, Najeeb, like many others, dreamed of a better future for himself and his family, venturing out in search of opportunities and stable employment. However, his hopes were dashed when he realized the grim reality awaiting him. Promised a job as a supermarket salesman, Najeeb found himself trapped in servitude in the desolate deserts of Saudi Arabia, forced into the grueling life of a goatherd. Enduring unimaginable challenges under the scorching sun, with no means of escape from his oppressive employer, Najeeb persevered through isolation and hardship for two long years. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring struggles faced by migrant workers, shedding light on the difficulties encountered by those seeking a better life abroad.

Recent reports have unveiled actor Prithviraj's astounding physical metamorphosis for this film, during which he managed to shed a remarkable 31 kilograms. This remarkable feat required an immense dedication to his craft and a rigorous regimen, underscoring his commitment to delivering an authentic portrayal on screen. Prithviraj's transformation not only reflects his dedication to the role but also highlights the lengths to which actors go to bring characters to life convincingly.

'Goat Days' is a novel penned by Kerala-born author Benyamin. Originally written in Malayalam under the title 'Aadujeevitham,' it was later translated into English by Joseph Koyipally. Published in 2012, the book has been translated into several other languages including Arabic, Nepali, Thai, and Odiya.

The Malayalam edition of the novel received acclaim, winning the Kerala Literary Academy Award in 2009. It also gained international recognition when it appeared in the Man Asian Literary Award and was shortlisted for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature in 2014.

The much-anticipated movie trailer, released on March 9, captured global attention. Prithviraj stars as Najeeb, a Malayali immigrant coerced into slavery as a goatherd in Saudi Arabia. The trailer, lasting 1 minute and 33 seconds, offers a glimpse into Najeeb's harrowing journey and his growing desperation to return home. Prithviraj's transformation is remarkable, with a striking appearance showcasing matted hair and beard.
