'Watermelon Star' Divakar Arrested: Social media personality and Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9 contestant 'Watermelon Star' Divakar has reportedly been arrested in connection with a case involving allegations of criminal intimidation and an alleged demand for Rs 1 lakh from a YouTube channel employee.
According to a DT Next report, which cited Daily Thanthi, the arrest was made after a complaint was filed with the Kilpauk police in Chennai. Police are investigating allegations that Divakar threatened an employee associated with a YouTube channel after being asked to remove a video he had uploaded on social media. Divakar is a social media content creator from Madurai who gained widespread recognition through short-form videos on Instagram. Before entering the world of online entertainment, he was reportedly trained as a physiotherapist. He became popular after recreating a memorable sequence from the Tamil film Ghajini. In the original scene, actor Suriya's character, Sanjay Ramasamy, is seen holding and eating a watermelon while discreetly signalling to his saluting employees not to reveal his identity to his girlfriend. Divakar's humorous recreation of the moment quickly attracted attention online, eventually earning him the nickname "Watermelon Star." His growing online presence later opened opportunities in television and digital media. He expanded his reach by participating in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9, after which he continued appearing in interviews on YouTube, creating social media content, and taking part in television and film-related projects. According to the DT Next report, citing Daily Thanthi, the case stems from a video that Divakar recently shared on Instagram in which he reportedly made allegations against several individuals and called for action against them. The report states that after the video was published, a person associated with the YouTube channel allegedly contacted Divakar and requested that the content be removed. It is alleged that during the subsequent interaction, Divakar demanded Rs 1 lakh and issued threats, including an alleged death threat, to the complainant. Following the complaint, the matter was reported to the Kilpauk police station, where a case was registered under provisions related to criminal intimidation and extortion. Police reportedly formed a special team to trace Divakar after the case was registered. The team travelled to Madurai, where he was taken into custody. According to the report, the arrest is linked to the allegations made in the complaint regarding the purported demand for money and the alleged threats issued to the YouTube channel employee.
